9th Evening Ride - Pentlands - three reservoirs. Some climbing was required, obviously.

Derek took a group of 10 adventurous Pentland climbers on a very hot evening,  setting off though Buntsfield and Morningside, through Braidburn valley park.  into Greenbank and Firrhill, we crossed Oxgangs Road N and then Redford Rd (briefly) and into the unexplored wilderness of Laverockdale Cr and Bonaly.

An entry into Woodhall Rd brought us into Terra Cognita and of course the climbing began.  Along Blinkbonny rd and its perilous gravel (we had hinted that road bikes weren't the perfect tool for this job) then a turn South up Kirkgate, and we do mean up.  the leader advised us that we should play a song in our head and we'd be at the top by the time the song was done. Well it didn't work for me because in my song the dwarf sitting by the river was only just starting to stand up by the time I reached the top.

Harlaw and the ranger cottage.  No crepe wagon but the loos were accessible.   Onto Threipmuir with some trepidation because David had slipped last year and an impossibly bright streak of green slime had clung to his shorts after a fall. Not so this time, the head had made everything bone dry and taken all the challenge out of it.

A nice scenic ride to exit the hills at Mansfield Road, punctuated by a stretch of gravel that was only just cycleable, then the road down to blerno was horribly cratered and we had to slow right down for safety.

From Balerno we took the WOL path (blasted by flying bugs) then the canal, exiting that the excellent fountain bar.

An excellent ride, and the warmest I've ever seen the Pentlands.
